First Presbyterian Church offers Sunday morning classes for children, youth, and adults every Sunday from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M.. In addition, youth in grades 3 through grade 12 meet from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. every Sunday evening for music, supper, and activities. A Bible study course for adults is being offered on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. during Lent, and on other occasions.

 

CHILDREN AND YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES

Nursery I Ages newborn to toddler receive loving care in Room 8 of the children's wing, just east of Stewart Hall.  

 

Nursery II Two-year-olds enjoy play and attention in Room 7 of the children's wing.

 

Nursery III Three-year-olds play and learn, following the Bible Discovery curriculum, in Room 4 of the children's wing.  

 

Kindergarten Four- and five-year-olds also follow the Bible Discovery curriculum appropriate for their age. These children attend a portion of the worship service in the Sanctuary, then go with their teachers for a snack and outdoor play. They meet in Room 10 of the Children's wing.

 

Grades 1 and 2 This class prepares first-graders to attend the entire worship service, assisted by the second-grade veterans. Students use the Celebrate curriculum, and a worship preparation course on the sacraments, parts of the service, and acolyte training. The class meets in Room 202 of the main educational building.

 

 

Grades 3 through 5 (Junior Lows Meeting in Room 203 of the main educational building, this class is studying "Using the Bible"  

 

Grades 6 through 8 (Junior Highs) This class is using the Bible Discovery curriculum to look at Judges and the major and minor prophets. They meet in Room 215.

 

Grades 9 through 12 (Senior Highs) Older youth are discussing the "Story of God's People from Birth to Rebirth," from the Bible Discovery curriculum, in Room 207 of the main educational building.

 

Extended Session From 10:30 A.M. until the conclusion of worship services, care is available for children in Nursery I through Kindergarten in their regular classrooms. Teachers provide loving care and supervision for the younger children, and Bible stories, snacks, crafts, and outdoor play for the older ones.

 

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES

TIMOTHY CLASS This class for young adults in their twenties and early thirties meets in the manse, at the east end of the church. 

 

COVENANT CLASS This class for men and women meets in Room 209 of the educational building.

 

PAIRS AND SPARES CLASS This co-educational group meets in the John Knox Room, whose outside door is located just to the east of the sanctuary.

 

FIDELIS AND DAVIS HOYLE CLASS This lecture class for men and women meets in Room 115 of the educational building.

 

Sojourners Class A class that studies the Bible in light of contemporary issues taught by Peter Foley in Room 110.

 

SUNDAY EVENING ACTIVITIES

CHAPEL CHOIR (grades 3 through 5) These musicians rehearse from 6:30-7:30 P.M. in

 

YOUTH ENSEMBLE (grades 6 throught 12) This choir practices from 5:00-6:00 P.M. in

 

JUNIOR LOWS (grades 3 through 5) Service projects, educational activities, and fun, from 5:00-6:00 P.M., with supper at 6:00 P.M.

 

JUNIOR HIGHS (grades 6 through 8) Youth trips, service, learning, Bible study, and games are led by adult advisors. Meet in Stewart Hall for supper at 6:00 P.M., and end at 7:30P.M.

 

SENIOR HIGHS (grades 9 through 12) With their adult advisors, older youth participate in service, Bible study, fellowship and games, beginning with supper at 6:00 P.M. in Stewart Hall, and ending at 7:30 P.M..

 

WEDNESDAY EVENING ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN

Children age five through fifth grade learn about thrilling stories of the Bible on Wednesday nights from 6:45 to 7:30 P.M., in the Associate Pastor's study.
